Fifty Shades of Slap Me Silly: My Thoughts on THAT Movie

What do you get when you put two uncharismatic romantic leads in a film with an unrealistic plot and stilted dialogue?

A multi-million dollar blockbuster hit, of course.

Remember when that sparkly vampire film came out years before? A good segment of the public bitched about Twilight while the creator laughed all the way to the bank.

And it’s happening all over again; talk about history repeating itself.

Once again, women are dragging guys to a movie that, for the most part, is meant for the female demographic. And like before, the people behind the franchise are raking in serious stacks of dough.

Oh, and here’s a fun fact: Fifty Shades of Grey originally started out as Twilight fan fiction (i.e. when people write about their favorite characters and put them in situations beyond the original plot).

So, it’s no surprise that women are eating up Fifty Shades of Grey, especially since its roots go back to the same place.

As for me, I watched it just to see what the hype was about. Like Christian Grey told Anastasia Steele, “Try to keep an open mind.”

And that’s exactly what I did. Funny thing was, it wasn’t as bad as I’d expected it to be.

Sure, the performances were a bit wooden and there were some eye-rolling lines of dialogue. In spite of all of that, the film wasn’t without some important takeaways.

(And hey, Dakota Johnson certainly helped the movie’s visual appeal…if you catch my drift.)

As I sat through two hours of the movie, a few thoughts occurred to me:

#1: Dress to Impress

Christian Grey may not exist in real life, but he does know to how project that I’ve-got-my-act-together vibe to women.

However, you don’t have to be a multi-billionaire like him to make the ladies swoon. Whatever your job is, you need to give women the impression that you’re passionate, driven and self-sufficient.

And that starts with the packaging; so dress like a grown-ass man if you want women to take you seriously as an adult.

You don’t have to overdo it and dress like a trendy D-bag though. Ask your well-dressed friends, research online, consult with the sales clerks at your local men’s store and check out some men’s magazines.

Once you’ve upgraded your style and found a look that works for you, you’ve already taken a huge step in being more attractive to women.

#2: Women Want You to Take Charge

Ok, let’s be absolutely clear on this. I don’t mean that you should feel superior to women or put them down.

As empowered women are today, they have a deep, basic need to surrender themselves to someone they can trust. This is exactly the fantasy that Fifty Shades of Grey taps into.

After all, the movie is built on a woman’s desire to be RAVISHED by the guy in her life.

She may be on top of every other aspect of her life, but it’s a different ballgame when it comes to intimate relationships. On some level, she wants the freedom to give up responsibility and feel her guy’s masculine strength.

You can capitalize on that by learning how to sweep a girl off her feet, especially when it comes to matters in the bedroom. Which brings me to my next point…

#3: Communicate Your Desires

If you really want to rock her world under the sheets, you’ll have to know how to turn her on.

Look, this movie is proof that to some extent, women WANT to be dominated by their partner. Why else are women lining up to see Anastasia get tied up and have Christian do naughty things to her?

But every woman’s comfort level is different. Talk to your woman about what she likes in bed and meet each other halfway with your respective desires.

Granted that her sexual fantasies isn’t the easiest topic to broach with your lady, you should still look out for an opportunity to probe for answers.

For instance, you could ask her during foreplay: “What do you want me to do to you?”

Or when the topic of sex comes up, make it look like you wanted to know what women in general think (even though it’s her own thoughts you’re really interested in):

“Actually, I was wondering – what would most women would want in bed?”

And if you’ve already seen the movie with her, it’s the perfect time to ask away:

“Do you think most women would want something like that? What kind of contract would you make if you were Anastasia?”

One thing’s for sure: Fifty Shades of Grey struck a nerve with the ladies, and the best thing a guy could do is learn from it.
